You can fully charge your battery and reset the BMS and everything will work again but eventually, it may drift back to not working. It is a flawed system. My wife has a 2014 Fiesta without BMS and the heated screen works whenever the button is pressed. In my 2018 S-Max with BMS it is a lottery in cold weather as to whether the heated screen

The last few times i've used the heated rear window i've noticed it isn't clearing it and does seem somewhat patchy in what it does clear. Usually after a couple of minutes, you can see it "burning" its way along it, but i'm not getting that.
Obviously this may not work if the display is dead but, with ignition on or engine running, try the heater A/C panel reset and self test mode. Press 'off' and 'footwell' together for 2 seconds, release then immediately press 'auto' or 'on' (if you don't have auto). The test takes up to 30 seconds then displays any fault codes in sequence. If battery voltage is low some things wont work, heated screen will not switch on if voltage is not high enough to confirm the alternator is charging. You might have a weak battery or failing alternator. I don't have a Ford IDS. I have a generic OBD.
